Bardhaman University hosted a seminar on the Uniform Civil Code at the Golapbag alumni auditorium on Friday. The event was organized jointly by the law department of the university and the Kolkata-based organization Citizens for Justice.
The program was inaugurated by West Bengal Minister of State for Industries Moumita বিশ্বাসের Mishra and Bardhaman University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Shankar Kumar Nath.
Experts from the legal field, teachers, researchers, and students were present at the event.
Key speakers included retired Calcutta High Court judge Justice Dr. Sambuddha Chakrabarti and Dr. Prem Kumar Agarwal, assistant professor of law at Goenka College of Commerce and Business Administration in Kolkata.
Discussions covered constitutional and legal aspects of the Uniform Civil Code with a specific focus on the Directive Principles of State Policy mentioned in Article 44 of the Constitution.
Speakers shared views on the possibilities of a uniform legal system in personal law matters such as marriage, divorce, succession, property, and adoption.
