Baikunthpur Rajbari Starts 517th Durga Puja In Jalpaiguri

The 517th Durga Puja celebrations have officially begun at the historical Baikunthpur Rajbari in Jalpaiguri with the traditional Nand Utsav and Katham Puja. Preparations for the grand Durgotsav started at the Rajbari following the traditional Nand Utsav held the day after Janmashtami.

Traditional Rituals And Mud Play

The main attraction of the festival was the traditional kadakhel mud play held on Saturday morning. The mud used in this special game is collected to apply the first layer on the Rajbari Durga idol. Idol making work officially started in the Natamandir of the Rajbari following age-old family traditions and customs.

Idol Making And Upcoming Rituals

The initial phase of making the Durga idol began with the special Katham Puja. According to Rajbari sources, the eyes of the Durga idol will be painted on the morning of Mahalaya. The festive atmosphere has officially started building up at the historical Baikunthpur Rajbari with these early puja rituals.
