Assam Rifles personnel stopped an official delegation from the Naga Students' Federation at the Avangkhu Check Gate in the Meluri border region of eastern Nagaland. The group was traveling to Myanmar for a scheduled cross-border cultural exchange with other Naga communities.
Security forces
denied both vehicular and pedestrian passage at the boundary because of strict border jurisdiction protocols. This restriction caused widespread condemnation from regional student groups, including the Pochury Students' Union, the All Sumi Students' Union, and the Rengma Students' Union.
Civil society organizations
issued formal statements to question the grounds for the blockade and demanded clear answers. They want to know if there was a written order to stop legitimate community institutions from crossing the border.
