Assam Reports Zero Rhino Poaching Success

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that rhino poaching in Kaziranga National Park has reached zero due to the current government's conservation efforts. The statement was made on September 22 to mark World Rhino Day, highlighting a major change in the state's wildlife protection record.

Sarma compared the current status to the previous government's term, stating that 40 to 45 rhinos were killed every year in the past. He noted that the current administration implemented new measures to stop these incidents. The Chief Minister has invited tourists and wildlife enthusiasts to visit Kaziranga to witness the protected rhino population.

National Initiatives for Wildlife

On the same day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of Project Rhino to provide financial and technical support to range states. This project aims to improve habitat management and protect the greater one-horned rhinoceros. The Prime Minister highlighted that Assam currently holds nearly 80 percent of the world's rhino population. He also noted that successful rhino protection and reintroduction efforts are ongoing in other states, including West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh.
