Assam Police will challenge the bail orders given by the Gauhati High Court to Amritprava Mahanta and Sandipon Garg in the Zubeen Garg death case. The appeal will be filed in the Supreme Court as soon as the court holidays end and the courts reopen. Special DGP CID and SIT Chief Munna Prasad Gupta stated that the trial is currently moving on a day-to-day basis in a fast-track court, with 134 witnesses already examined so far.
The Gauhati High Court granted bail to suspended Assam Police DSP Sandipon Garg, who is a cousin of the late singer Zubeen Garg. A single bench of Justice Rajesh Mazumdar approved the bail after hearing his petition. Special Public Prosecutor Ziaul Kamar stated that the full order had not been read out yet by the court. Earlier on October 9,
the High Court also granted bail to co-singer Amritprava Mahanta on a bond of Rs 50,000, making her the first accused to secure bail in the case. She was arrested by the Special Investigation Team of Assam Police following hours of questioning. Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19, 2025, in a scuba diving accident in Singapore.
