Assam Police Seize Drugs Worth 28 Crore in Cachar Raid

A joint operation by Cachar Police and the 38 Assam Rifles led to the seizure of a drug consignment valued at ₹28 crore in the Cachar district of Assam. During this intelligence-led raid, authorities successfully apprehended three individuals suspected of drug trafficking.

Details of the Seized Contraband

Security forces recovered a significant quantity of illegal substances during the operation. This included 110,000 Yaba tablets with a total weight of approximately 14 kilograms. Additionally, officials found 223 grams of high-grade heroin, which was discovered packed inside 10 soap cases. The total value of these seized items is estimated to be ₹28 crore on the black market.

Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation

Following the arrests, the authorities have registered a formal case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The three detainees are currently in custody and are undergoing interrogation by the police. Investigators are now working to determine the supply route and identify wider interstate smuggling links across the region.

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma recognized the efforts of the law enforcement agencies involved in the operation. He reiterated the commitment of the state government to maintain a zero-tolerance policy regarding drug cartels. The Chief Minister stated that the drug mafia continues to face the full force of the law in Assam.
