Assam Police Gets 50 New Patrol Motorcycles

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma officially handed over 50 new patrol motorcycles to the Assam Police force during a ceremony held at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati on Sunday, October 4, 2026. The distribution of these vehicles was provided by Hero MotoCorp Ltd under its Ride Safe India Corporate Social Responsibility program. The initiative is designed to enhance urban beat patrolling, traffic monitoring, and quick-response capabilities across major municipal districts.

Enhancing Emergency Response In Cities

During the event, Chief Minister Sarma emphasized that the addition of these motorcycles will allow police personnel to respond more rapidly to emergency calls, road accidents, and instances of traffic congestion. He noted that the initiative is critical for maintaining law and order in high-density commercial centers where larger vehicles often face mobility constraints. To underscore the importance of road safety, CM Sarma rode one of the motorcycles within the Janata Bhawan complex while wearing a helmet. Assam Director General of Police Harmeet Singh and Guwahati Police Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta were also in attendance at the ceremony.

Vehicle Specifications And Training

The newly commissioned motorcycles feature 440cc engines, six-speed transmissions, assist-and-slipper clutches, dual-channel anti-lock braking systems, front and rear disc brakes, and full-LED lighting, all customized with Assam Police branding. As part of this comprehensive initiative, traffic police personnel have undergone specialized training focused on road safety, law enforcement, and emergency response management.
