Police in Assam have detained two suspects after a high speed car chase on the night of September 30, 2026. The two men are identified as Jabir Hussain and Tausif Alam, and both live in Nagaon. The incident started at Akashiganga when a Mahindra Scorpio SUV with registration number AS02 AA 0150 hit a minor child.
The child was first in critical condition but reports say the child has improved and is now out of danger. After hitting the child, the vehicle ran away from the place. This started a 40 kilometer chase that went through the Nagaon and Karbi Anglong districts. Authorities said that the people inside the vehicle were allegedly drunk at that time.
The suspects broke through many police barricades during the chase and dragged one barricade for some distance. They also caused major damage at the Doboka toll gate. Local residents who chased the vehicle said the occupants threatened them. The chase ended at Nonoi in Nagaon district where the Nonoi Police Outpost stopped the SUV. An angry crowd then surrounded the vehicle and damaged the Scorpio. Law enforcement officials started a full investigation into the hit and run and the property damage. A case of rash driving is being registered against Hussain and Alam while inquiries continue.
