Security personnel have been placed on high alert along the disputed Assam-Meghalaya frontier near Boko following the nighttime arson of a private vehicle belonging to a havildar from the 28th Battalion of the Assam Police. The car, which was parked on an access road outside the Upper Lampi Battalion Border Outpost due to damaged road conditions, was completely destroyed by fire.
The incident occurs amidst ongoing friction in the Lampi sector, an area characterized by contested boundaries and frequent confrontations between administrative authorities and local student unions.
Investigators are currently considering the possibility that the vehicle was intentionally targeted by miscreants utilizing informal trails across the border.Local village councils have expressed concern regarding the potential for further security escalations.
Forensic teams from Guwahati and senior district police officers have been deployed to collect charred remains from the site and evaluate perimeter security measures. As a precautionary step to prevent retaliatory skirmishes, authorities have doubled the number of patrols around remote checkposts in the Kamrup Rural and West Khasi Hills districts.
