Assam Parties And Supporters Announce Mass Protest For Justice

Political parties and supporters in Assam are launching a mass movement to seek justice for the late cultural icon Zubeen Garg, who passed away in Singapore in September last year. A public meeting was held at Zubeen Garg Khetra in Sonapur on Sunday, attended by representatives from Congress, Raijor Dal, Assam Jatiya Parishad, and other organizations along with the singer's family and followers.

Statewide Movement Led By Family

The upcoming protests will be led by Garima Saikia Garg, the wife of the late singer. Raijor Dal MLA Akhil Gogoi stated that the movement will focus solely on seeking justice without any political party branding, urging all participants to leave party affiliations behind. He alleged that the Assam government failed to deliver justice, prompting the decision to launch the statewide agitation and approach the courts.

Court Proceedings And Bail Details

Gauhati High Court advocate Nekibur Zaman discussed ongoing legal proceedings regarding the case. In October, the Gauhati High Court granted bail to suspended Assam Police DSP Sandipon Garg and co-singer Amritprava Mahanta after noting they had completed over a year in detention and observing a lack of material to keep them in custody. Special Public Prosecutor Ziaul Kamar confirmed Mahanta received bail on a bond of Rs 50,000. Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19, 2025, during a scuba diving trip in Singapore.
