Police in Assam have arrested four people after a 31-year-old man was killed and beheaded in the Jorhat district following a dispute over an alleged relationship.
The deceased man was identified as Anil Rajgarh from the Greenview Tea Estate in Mariani.
According to police, Anil went missing on September 7 after his family filed a complaint at the Mariani Police Station. His decomposed body was found on September 11 near the Bhogdoi River. Mariani CDSP Trinayan Chamuah stated that the victim was first attacked with a blade and then beheaded with a machete.
Police arrested Kapil Karmakar, his wife Anima Karmakar, his younger brother Sanjit Karmakar, and their friend Mahesh Rajgarh. Investigators stated that Anil had been in contact with Anima for several months.
Police said Anima called Anil to a tea garden area on September 7 where the other accused were waiting. After the attack, the accused placed the body in a sack, dragged it to the riverside, and buried it. Police recovered the machete from the house of one of the accused. All four people have been booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder, criminal conspiracy, and destroying evidence after they reportedly confessed to the crime.
