Assam Finance Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah stated that the state human resource is its greatest strength for industrialisation. He spoke at the 13th SBI Banking & Economics Conclave in Mumbai on September 24. The ongoing investment-led transformation must create quality employment and economic opportunities for the youth within the state.
Assam is growing beyond traditional sectors like tea, petroleum, and agriculture.
New growth ecosystems are being built across semiconductors, electronics, food processing, tourism, logistics, renewable energy, healthcare, aerospace, and defence. The state has a young and skilled population with growing aspirations for quality employment.
The Minister highlighted the semiconductor facility in Morigaon and the PepsiCo India food manufacturing facility in Nalbari.
These projects create wider opportunities for farmers, MSMEs, transporters, and service providers. Advantage Assam 2.0 generated investment commitments of approximately Rs 5.18 lakh crore.
Assam GSDP at current prices is estimated at approximately Rs 7.42 lakh crore in 2025-26 with real growth around 10.1 per cent.
The nominal GSDP for 2026-27 is projected at approximately Rs 8.71 lakh crore. The state budgeted a fiscal deficit of approximately Rs 26,186 crore, which is 3 per cent of GSDP.
Assam Credit-Deposit ratio increased from 41.10 per cent in March 2016 to 73.52 per cent in March 2026.
Cumulative priority-sector advances since 2021-22 have crossed Rs 3.69 lakh crore. Banks are encouraged to use verified digital trails like GST data and Udyam registration to assess businesses.
