Assam group holds meetings to stop elephant conflict

Wildlife group Aaranyak held community workshops in Assam to address rising human-elephant conflicts after recent elephant and human deaths. The organisation conducted two community consultation-cum-awareness workshops in the Tamulpur district on October 9, 2026. These sessions aimed to engage villagers before implementing mitigation tools and to understand community willingness regarding conflict reduction activities.

Community Engagement in Tamulpur

Villagers in Santipur and Abhaypur villages suggested locations for human-elephant conflict mitigation tools and identified households needing searchlights. The meetings ensured complete transparency and provided a chance to educate communities on elephant conservation and coexistence. Around 110 people joined the sessions moderated by Aaranyak project officers with support from the Assam State Forest Department.

Support for Raimona National Park Staff

Ten bicycles were given to frontline forest staff of Raimona National Park to improve field mobility and patrolling activities. The Department of Environment and Forest of Bodoland Territorial Council provided the bicycles with support from Aaranyak on October 14, 2026. This initiative aims to boost the operational capacity and wildlife conservation efforts of forest personnel in the region.
