Assam Flood Relief Claim Deadline Set for August 30

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed residents in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat to submit their applications for flood relief and insurance claims by August 30. This initiative aims to provide financial support to families, farmers, and small business owners who suffered losses due to recent floods and riverbank erosion.

Relief Package and Loan Moratorium Details

The state government is collaborating with the State Level Bankers' Committee and the Reserve Bank of India to roll out this relief package. A six-month loan repayment moratorium began on July 19, 2026, for eligible borrowers including those with agriculture, housing, and vehicle loans. Additionally, small business owners and MSMEs may qualify for loan tenure extensions of up to seven years and access to new collateral-free credit options.

Insurance and Compensation Procedures

Insurance companies have simplified their documentation processes to help people settle claims for crop and property damage faster. The government is currently conducting damage assessment surveys to determine the final compensation amounts, which will range from ₹1.78 lakh to over ₹3.5 lakh. This follows the initial interim grants of ₹15,000 already provided to affected families.

Steps for Residents to Receive Aid

To ensure all claims are processed, residents must complete their verification before the deadline. Individuals should visit their local circle offices or bank branches to submit the necessary paperwork. Timely submission of these documents is required to receive the financial assistance and support measures offered by the state government.
