Assam Flood Relief Application Deadline Set for August 30

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has requested residents in flood-affected districts to submit applications for financial aid and loan relief by the August 30 deadline. This relief initiative covers the districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat, which were impacted by recent floods and riverbank erosion. The government is working with the Reserve Bank of India and the State Level Bankers' Committee to manage these support packages for farmers, business owners, and households.

Loan Moratorium and Financial Support

Eligible borrowers can access a six-month moratorium on loan repayments starting from July 19, 2026. This relief applies to housing, education, vehicle, crop, and self-help group loans. Borrowers may also apply for extended loan tenures of one to two years for agricultural loans and three to seven years for MSME businesses. Additionally, small shopkeepers who lost their inventory or shop structures can apply for a collateral-free loan top-up of ₹10,000.

Insurance Claims and Compensation

Insurance providers have simplified the documentation process to speed up claim settlements for damaged property, vehicles, crops, and livestock. Damage assessment surveys are currently underway and must be completed by August 30. Compensation packages for severely affected households are expected to range from ₹1.78 lakh to over ₹3.5 lakh. These payments follow the distribution of interim grants of ₹15,000 per family and ₹1.5 lakh provided for the repair of damaged local Namghars.

How to Apply for Relief

Residents are advised to visit their local circle offices, bank branches, or designated relief camps to complete the necessary survey verification. Prompt submission of applications is required to ensure timely disbursement of funds. By completing the documentation before the end of the month, affected individuals can access the full range of financial assistance provided by the state government and participating financial institutions.
