Assam Flood Death Toll Reaches 101 With Many Still Affected

Assam is facing a severe flood situation with the official death toll rising to 101 following a new fatality in the Sivasagar district. As of Tuesday, August 11, 2026, the floods have left 126,431 people affected across seven districts in the state. The worst-hit areas include Golaghat, Sivasagar, and Jorhat, where thousands of residents are currently struggling with the impact of the rising water levels.

Impact on Villages and Agriculture

The floodwater has submerged 458 villages and caused significant damage to approximately 11,287.04 hectares of agricultural land. To assist those displaced by the rising waters, 89 relief camps and distribution centers are currently operational, providing shelter to around 24,000 people. Several major rivers, including the Dhansiri and Kushiyara, are flowing above the danger level, which continues to pose a threat to the region.

Rescue and Relief Operations

Government agencies, including the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), are conducting rescue and relief operations. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) is coordinating these efforts and providing regular updates, as noted in a PIB release. Officials have been directed to quickly assess the damage to ensure that residents receive financial assistance for rehabilitation as soon as possible.

Support and Contributions

Various organizations and government bodies are contributing to the ongoing relief work. The Indian Ports Association has donated ₹5 crore to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, and the Chhattisgarh government has also contributed ₹5 crore. Additionally, groups like the Reliance Foundation, Vantara, Reliance Retail, and Jio are providing essential supplies, including food, drinking water, and healthcare support to the most severely affected districts of Sivasagar and Charaideo.
