Assam has expanded its industrial presence by partnering with Gujarat for a new e-methanol production project at Kandla.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, and Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone for the project on Saturday.
The project is a joint initiative of Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited and the Deendayal Port Authority.
The project involves an investment of Rs 2,300 crore and will produce 150 tonnes of e-methanol per day.
It will create more than 3,500 jobs directly and indirectly.
The e-methanol produced will be used as a marine fuel for ships to reduce carbon emissions in the shipping sector.
