Assam Congress Protests Against Chief Election Commissioner

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee staged a massive protest in Guwahati demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The party also demanded an impartial review of decisions and changes made to electoral rolls during his tenure.

Police Detain Congress Leaders

Assam Police halted the protest march from Rajiv Bhawan toward the State Chief Electoral Officer office and detained several leaders. Among those detained were APCC President and Lok Sabha Deputy Leader of Opposition Gaurav Gogoi, along with other key party members and workers. The party reported tense scuffles as police set up barricades to block the rally.

Gaurav Gogoi Slams Election Commission

MP Gaurav Gogoi alleged that the Election Commission is functioning like the ruling party IT cell and systematically deleting voter names. He stated that arbitrary rules in electoral forms are robbing the youth of their voting rights. The Congress party announced that its struggle will continue until the Chief Election Commissioner is removed and voting rights are protected.
