Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi strongly condemned the police detention of Cockroach Janata Party activists in Guwahati. The police detained CJP members including Ashutosh Ranka in Guwahati while the outfit was organizing a Volunteer Meet.
MP Gaurav Gogoi questioned the BJP government in the state regarding the police action against the youth. He asked why the government is scared of the youth and whether it is terrified because young people have rejected divisive politics. According to the Assam Congress, the party alleged that the BJP is mocking democratic norms and resorting to repressive tactics to curb free voices. Gogoi emphasized that suppressing criticism and free expression cannot be tolerated in a functional democracy and stated that he will stand alongside the justice-seeking youth.
CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka had announced that the group would visit schools and meet families of students in Guwahati. The group had also planned a meeting with local volunteers who have been working in the area for months. Ranka stated that the movement is spreading across the country with tremendous support in the Northeast and Assam.
