Assam authorities have confirmed that the Dikhow River is flowing normally following a landslide upstream in Nagaland. The landslide took place on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, between Yaongyimsen in Mokokchung district and Yongshei in Longleng district. Early reports and an audio message from the Longleng district administration had claimed an 80 percent blockage of the river. However, ground checks on Thursday, October 1, 2026, proved these claims were false.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Sivasagar District Commissioner Mridul Yadav have asked people not to panic, stating the situation is under control. Cabinet Minister Bimal Borah also visited the site and confirmed there is no reason for alarm. On October 1, 2026, the water level at Bihubar was measured at 94.73 meters. This is safely below the danger mark of 103.77 meters and the warning mark of 102.77 meters.
The India Meteorological Department and Central Water Commission have predicted light rainfall for isolated areas in Mokokchung and Longleng districts for October 1 and 2, 2026. The Sivasagar administration has told downstream residents to stay alert and only trust official news. People can report unusual river activity to the District Emergency Operation Centre at 84718-64355 or the toll-free number 03772-1077.
