Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma officially opened a new Assam Bhawan complex in Bengaluru on Friday, October 16, 2026. The new building cost ₹71.24 crore to build and is built on a plot of 16,249 square meters.
The facility serves as a helpful hub for Assamese students, patients, and professionals who visit South India. The project faced long delays after it was first bought in 2008 and stopped in 2016 due to land issues before work started again in May 2022.
The complex provides many rooms, including seven VIP suites, 26 mini-suites, 36 double-occupancy rooms, and a 26-bed dormitory. It also features residential units for government officials, five conference halls, a banquet hall, a restaurant, a library, exhibition space, a gymnasium, and indoor sports facilities. CM Sarma stated that the building will offer subsidized stays and medical help for people traveling to Karnataka for healthcare and education.
Several officials attended the opening ceremony, including Assam Revenue Minister Keshab Mahanta and other top government officers. CM Sarma thanked the Karnataka government and local MLA S.T. Somashekar for their support.
He also shared plans to build more Bhawans in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Gaya, and Pune. At the same time, 16 other states have asked for land in Guwahati to build their own facilities.
