Assam CM Opens First Northeast Visa Centre

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has officially opened the first VFS Global Visa Application Centre in Guwahati on Thursday, October 15, 2026. This new facility is located in Dispur and is built to serve people living across all eight northeastern states including Sikkim.

Services for Fourteen Countries

The new visa center handles applications and biometric data for fourteen international destinations which include the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Italy, and Egypt. The facility also offers Schengen visa services that give access to twenty-nine European countries. People from the Northeast no longer need to travel long distances to Kolkata or New Delhi for their visa work. More details can be found in the ANI News Report.

Inauguration and Official Details

Several ministers and diplomatic representatives attended the opening ceremony to support the new launch. Officials clarified that while this center collects applications and biometric details, the final decision on visa approvals rests entirely with the respective country authorities. Applicants should check all document requirements through official VFS Global channels before visiting.
