Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone for a 3,200 MW thermal power project in Dhubri district. This project costs around Rs 48,000 crore and is built by Adani Power Limited at Chapar. It is the largest single industrial investment in Assam.
The project will create jobs for 25,000 people during construction and 5,000 permanent jobs when it opens. It will help meet the growing power needs of Assam. The state daily power requirement is expected to reach 5,500 MW by 2030.
The thermal power project will start working in phases from December 2030 and reach full capacity by December 2032. This project will reduce the heavy dependence of Assam on power purchased from outside the state.
