Assam currently produces roughly 400 MW of power within its borders, but demand is climbing fast. Projections from state officials indicate the requirement will reach 5,800 MW by 2032. Technology and Project Background
The facility will feature four 800 MW units powered by ultra-supercritical technology. These units are designed to enhance efficiency and include modern environmental safeguards. Adani Power Limited secured the project after emerging as the successful bidder in October 2025, with the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited issuing the formal letter of award the following month, as noted by The Hindu and the Business Standard.
Jobs and Investment
Employment is a major focus, with the project expected to support up to 20,000 jobs during the construction phase. Once the plant reaches full operational status, it is anticipated to provide approximately 5,000 permanent roles. Construction work is now accelerating across the site, with the first 800 MW unit scheduled for commissioning in December 2030.
