Assam CM launches bamboo bicycles for green transport

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has formally launched new bicycles made from bamboo at an event in Guwahati on Friday. The project aims to make Assam a major hub for sustainable transportation and bamboo bicycle manufacturing.

Project Details and Manufacturing Plan

The initiative involves an investment of about Rs 15 crore and is undertaken by Pune-based Bamboo India Private Limited. The project will create 50 to 100 direct jobs in the first year and plans to make around 1,000 bicycles every month in the beginning. The bicycles will be manufactured at the Bamboo Park in Chaygaon, using bamboo sourced from Assam.

Public Display and Government Support

The newly launched bamboo bicycles will be kept on display at various parks across Guwahati to collect feedback from the general public. The state government will extend support for future manufacturing if the public response is positive. The quality and safety of these bicycles have been certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), ensuring they meet official standards.
