Assam CM Invites Investors For Semiconductor Opportunities

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged investors to explore new opportunities in the state semiconductor sector during SEMICON India 2026.

Tata Facility at Jagiroad

The Chief Minister highlighted that the Tata Electronics semiconductor assembly, testing and packaging facility at Jagiroad is scheduled for commissioning in December this year. The state government is making every effort to ensure the success of this facility through enabling policies and institutional support. Once operational, the plant will produce 48 million chips a day and generate around 27,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Strategic Location and Growth

Sarma stated that Assam enjoys a unique geographical advantage as the gateway to Southeast Asia and ASEAN markets. The semiconductor sector is expanding into fabrication, advanced packaging, equipment, materials, research and talent development. The three-day SEMICON India 2026 event was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and organised by the India Semiconductor Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
