Assam CM Inaugurates New Naharkatia Sports Complex

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the Naharkatia Multipurpose Sports Complex at Naggaon on Tuesday. This project is a major addition to the sports infrastructure in the region and covers about 34 bighas of land.

Details of the New Sports Facility

The first phase of this project was completed at a cost of Rs 22 crore. The complex includes an international-standard cricket ground, a football field, a 25-metre by 15-metre swimming pool, and an athletics track. It also features a covered spectator gallery, a gymnasium, and an administrative building. Following the inauguration, the Chief Minister watched a football match between the Naharkatia Sports Association and the Duliajan Sports Association.

Aim of the Sports Infrastructure

Several dignitaries attended the event, including Sports Minister Bishwajit Daimary and Labour Minister Rameswar Teli. The facility is designed to help local athletes train and compete at state and national levels. This development aligns with the state government's efforts to improve public facilities as noted by the Government of Assam. By bringing multiple sports disciplines together, the complex aims to provide better access to training for people in Naharkatia and surrounding areas.
