Assam CM Inaugurates New Bongaigaon Medical College

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has formally inaugurated the new Bongaigaon Medical College and Hospital. The multi-specialty facility was constructed at an estimated cost of 700 crore rupees. The project began with a foundation stone laying ceremony in December 2022.

Facility Details and Capacity

The hospital spans approximately 151 bighas of land and serves as Assam's 15th medical college. The National Medical Commission has granted approval for the establishment, authorizing an annual intake of 100 MBBS students for the 2026 academic year.

Healthcare Services for the Region

The new hospital is equipped with 500 beds, modern intensive care units, and advanced diagnostic laboratories. It is designed to provide tertiary healthcare to residents of Bongaigaon, Chirang, and neighboring transit belts, reducing the need to travel to Guwahati for emergency medical treatments.
