Assam CM Confirms New Highway Projects Amid AI Rumors

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has addressed recent social media claims that state highway footage was created using artificial intelligence. He clarified that the infrastructure progress in the state is real and ongoing. The government is currently focusing on major expansion projects to improve road connectivity across the region. The Chief Minister emphasized that the state is moving forward with significant developments in its transport network.

New Guwahati to Tezpur Highway Corridor

The central government has approved a new 135.87-kilometer, four-lane access-controlled highway between Guwahati and Tezpur. This project is managed by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs with an estimated cost of ₹8,970.20 crore. The road will be built under the BOT (Toll) model. This new corridor is expected to reduce travel time significantly by increasing average vehicle speeds and decreasing traffic on the current NH-27 route.

Strategic and Ecological Project Features

The project includes a 4.9-kilometer emergency landing facility for the Indian Air Force located on the Tezpur Bypass. This feature is designed to support defense and logistics needs in the region. The plan also includes five major bypasses covering 58.7 kilometers to improve traffic flow. To protect local wildlife, the project incorporates dedicated elephant underpasses and elevated wildlife corridors along the route.
