The Assam Cabinet has approved a 12 percent reservation in police and security posts for permanent residents of the state serving under the Agniveer scheme. This decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to boost employment and development in the state.
The new reservation applies to constable and equivalent posts in Assam Police, Commando Battalions, Jail, Fire Services, SDRF, Forest Guards, and Excise departments. The Agniveer scheme, known as AGNIPATH, allows youth to serve in the Armed Forces for four years. According to the cabinet release, this scheme aims to create a youthful profile of the Armed Forces and provide disciplined manpower to society.
The cabinet also approved the creation of a separate Commissioner post for the PWD Roads National Highway department. It cleared three Memorandums of Understanding for Jal Jeevan Mission schemes across autonomous councils. Additionally, the government approved an investment proposal of Rs 10,200 crore from Dalmia Bharat, financial assistance for the Assam Regiment, monthly funds for Madhupur Satra, and tasked Tata Consultancy with a project report for the Brahmaputra River Front.
