Assam Cabinet Approves Major 11000 Crore Cement Investment
The Assam Cabinet has officially approved a proposal for a major investment of Rs 11,000 crore by JK Lakshmi Cement Limited. This project focuses on the establishment of a clinker manufacturing unit and four associated cement grinding units within the state. According to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, this initiative is expected to generate direct employment for approximately 2,000 people in Assam.
Restoration of Community Beels
The state government has also approved a project to restore and rehabilitate 102 derelict community beels. The funding for this initiative includes a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and a contribution from the state government. This work aims to improve the condition of these water bodies across the region.
Infrastructure and Industrial Updates
Approval has been granted for the construction of a new laboratory for the Spices Board at Ulubari in Guwahati. Additionally, the Cabinet cleared the State Capital Investment Subsidy under the Uttar Poorva Transformative Industrialisation Scheme (UNNATI), 2024 for eligible manufacturing units.
Benefits for Tea Workers and Families
The government announced a 20 per cent bonus for eligible workers and employees of tea gardens managed by the Assam Tea Corporation Limited (ATCL). Furthermore, Orunodoi beneficiaries will receive an increased monthly incentive of Rs 1,500 for the month of October as a Durga Puja gift. The Cabinet has also declared October 17, 2026, as an additional holiday for the Durga Puja festival in the state.
