Assam Arunachal Border Tensions Stabilize After Firing

Tensions at the Assam and Arunachal Pradesh border have been brought under control following a violent land dispute incident at Mingmang Basti in the Dhemaji district. On Monday, August 10, a clash occurred over alleged land encroachment, which resulted in miscreants opening fire and injuring local residents. The injured individuals were moved from Gogamukh Rural Hospital to Dhemaji Civil Hospital and the Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh for advanced medical treatment.

Administrative Actions to Restore Peace

To manage the situation, officials from both states began immediate coordination. Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu communicated with his counterpart in the Arunachal Pradesh government to resolve the disagreement. At the same time, the Assam Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police, GP Singh, spoke with senior police leadership in Arunachal Pradesh. These leaders agreed to conduct a joint investigation into the incident. To ensure safety and prevent further conflict, additional police forces have been deployed across sensitive areas in Gogamukh and Gerukamukh.

Clarification on the Border Conflict

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has addressed the situation publicly. He described the event as a localized land conflict rather than a larger inter-state issue. The Chief Minister confirmed that high-level administrative channels acted quickly to defuse the tension. These efforts were aimed at restoring normalcy for the local communities and preventing further disturbances in the region.
