An artist from Assam has created a six-foot-tall Durga idol using around 7,000 discarded pens and markers for the upcoming Durga Puja festival. Pradip Kumar Ghosh, a private tutor and sculptor from Dhubri, spent nearly four months completing the unique structure.
The idol will be displayed at the Usha Sangha Durga Puja pandal located in the Vishnu Cinema Hall lane of Dhubri town. Ghosh has been making Durga idols from discarded materials since 1992 to help reduce environmental pollution and save money. His past creations include idols made from plastic bottle caps, discarded paper, cotton cloth, coconut husks, vegetables, and soap.
Ghosh hopes his work encourages young people to find ways to reuse discarded materials instead of throwing them away. He believes that reusing everyday objects can help reduce pollution and make a significant difference if more people adopt such initiatives.
