Assam Approves Land for Lovlina Boxing Academy

The Assam Cabinet officially approved the land allocation for the new Lovlina Boxing Academy during a meeting held on Friday, October 9, 2026. The project is located in the Palasbari Revenue Circle near Guwahati and involves four bighas of land in Hudumpur village under Chayani Mouza.

Land Allocation and Government Support

The state government reduced the land premium to a nominal fee of Re 1 to honor Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain and speed up construction. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced this decision to help build a regional combat sports facility that will nurture young boxing talent in the state. The Chief Minister shared his vision for the academy to become a major hub for developing future athletes who can achieve national and international success.

Background and Next Steps

This initiative follows Borgohain’s recent gold medal victory in the women’s 75-kg boxing category at the Asian Games held in Japan. Chief Minister Sarma had previously honored the athlete with a cash reward of Rs 50 lakh for her achievement. While the land is now officially cleared, the state government has not yet shared details about the construction timeline, total budget, design, or the primary operating agency.
