Ashighar Outpost Hosts Women Safety Session in Telipara

The Ashighar Outpost, which is part of the Bhaktinagar Police Station under the Siliguri Police Commissionerate, held an awareness program for women in the Telipara area. This initiative aimed to increase the confidence of local women and inform them about their legal rights while encouraging them to contact the police for help during emergencies.

Focus on Police Support and Digital Safety

During the event, police officers shared direct contact numbers for the Ashighar Outpost, the Bhaktinagar Police Station, and the Women Help Desk to ensure residents can get help quickly. The police team also provided information on how to report safety concerns and shared tips on digital safety practices to help women stay secure in their daily lives.

Ongoing Safety Initiatives in Siliguri

The Siliguri Police Commissionerate continues to work on community policing to keep residential areas safe. This includes the Green Patrolling initiative started in January 2025, where women police officers use bicycles to patrol narrow or crowded streets. Additionally, the Pink Mobile Patrolling Van, which began in September 2024, and the Durga Vahini Squads introduced in July 2026 are part of the broader efforts to improve security across the city.

Statewide Commitment to Women Safety

Following government budget announcements in 2026, every sub-division in West Bengal is set to have a dedicated women police station. Every police station is also required to maintain a women help desk to assist with reports of domestic violence, harassment, cybercrime, and trafficking.
