Asansol Women Protest At SDO Office Over Annapurna Scheme

Women in Asansol protested at the SDO office after not receiving their Annapurna scheme money from the state government. A large group of women reached the office to demand quick payment of the financial assistance.

Annapurna Scheme Payment Delay Causes Anger

The state government started sending money to eligible beneficiaries' bank accounts under the Annapurna scheme. However, many eligible women in Paschim Bardhaman district are still waiting to receive their funds. Dozens of upset women reached the Asansol Sadar SDO office and surrounded it. They placed their complaints before SDO Sadhan Devnath during a two-hour protest. Police from Asansol South police station were called to the scene to control the situation.

Women Demand Immediate Financial Help

Protesting women stated that they applied for the Annapurna scheme through online, offline, and government camps. Many beneficiaries received approval messages, but money has not reached their bank accounts for several months. Women explained that the scheme money is very important and the delay causes them money problems. SDO Sadhan Devnath met the women, listened to their complaints, and assured them that eligible beneficiaries will get help as per rules. Technical issues or bank problems will also be fixed. Women ended their protest after the SDO gave this assurance.
