A fatal landslide on Aalo Road in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh has killed a truck driver and cut off vital supply routes. Heavy monsoon rains caused a massive slip of rock and mud that pushed a timber transport truck into a deep roadside ravine. Local village rescue teams used nylon ropes to go down into the gorge and rescue a critically injured helper from the mangled vehicle. The driver was confirmed dead at the scene from impact injuries.
The road collapse has stopped surface connectivity and stranded freight convoys in the sector. This has interrupted the delivery of essential food and fuel supplies to upper border administrative blocks. Continuous heavy rainfall across the Eastern Himalayas compromised the mountain corridor and broke the outer retaining barrier.
The region has faced severe monsoon disruptions and road closures throughout the season. A major landslide occurred in June 2026 at Siji between Likabali and Aalo, blocking the Siji River and threatening flash floods in West Siang and Leparada districts. The Aalo-Pasighat road has also faced repeated closures this year. Authorities continue to issue safety advisories as frequent road blockages cause hazardous conditions and other casualties across the state, including an August 2026 landslide in Upper Subansiri that caused three deaths.
