Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu stated that his government will hold extensive consultations with affected communities if the Siang Upper Multi-Purpose Project moves past the feasibility stage.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu clarified that the government is not rushing the project beyond the feasibility stage and wants the Preliminary Feasibility Report completed first.
The PFR will take three months to check if the project is technically possible in Seismic Zone V and assess water protection levels.
Khandu described the project as a national initiative with strategic and security implications due to large water infrastructure projects announced by China.
He emphasized the need for scientific and technical study rather than rejecting or accepting the proposal without adequate assessment.
The Chief Minister assured that public hearings and community consultations will be held if the project proceeds after the feasibility stage.
Affected villages will be consulted regarding relocation and landowners will receive compensation according to applicable rules.
