Arunachal CM Promises Public Consultation On Siang Dam

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has stated that his government will hold extensive consultations with affected communities if the Siang Upper Multi-Purpose Project moves past the feasibility stage.

Focus On Preliminary Feasibility Report

Speaking at an interaction programme in Boleng, CM Khandu said the immediate priority is completing the Preliminary Feasibility Report to check if the project can be built technically in Seismic Zone V. He noted that the report will take three months and will provide clarity on the location and safety parameters of the proposed structure.

National Security And Strategic Importance

The Chief Minister emphasized that the project is important for India national security and defence preparedness due to water infrastructure developments by China. He stated that the proposal needs scientific and technical study rather than a direct rejection without assessment.

Public Consultation And Compensation Assurances

Khandu assured that if the project goes beyond the feasibility stage, the government will consult Gram Panchayats, villages, and local communities point by point. He added that affected villages will be consulted regarding relocation choices, and landowners will receive proper compensation according to the rules.
