Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu stated that his government will hold extensive consultations with affected communities if the Siang Upper Multi-Purpose Project moves past the feasibility stage.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu reiterated that the government is not rushing the project and wants the Preliminary Feasibility Report completed first.
This report will take three months to determine if the structure is technically feasible in Seismic Zone V.
Khandu emphasized that the project has wider strategic and security implications for India.
He noted that China announced a large water infrastructure project in 2021, making scientific and technical examination necessary.
The Chief Minister assured that public hearings and community consultations will take place if the project proceeds.
Relocation and compensation rules will apply according to law, and people will have the opportunity to reject the project if necessary.
