Arunachal CM Assures Talks on Upper Siang Hydro Project

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu stated that the government will hold extensive talks with affected people if the Siang Upper Multi-Purpose Project moves past the feasibility stage. The preliminary feasibility report is currently the main priority and will take three months to finish.

Focus on Technical Feasibility

Chief Minister Khandu explained that the preliminary report will check if the project can be safely built in Seismic Zone V and what protection it offers against upstream water release. If experts find the project is not technically feasible, no further steps will be taken.

National Security and Public Consultation

The Chief Minister noted that the project is linked to national security and defence preparedness due to water infrastructure developments in China. He assured that the government will engage with local communities, Gram Panchayats, and villages before taking any final decisions.
