Arunachal CM Assures Talks On Siang Upper Project

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has stated that his government will hold extensive consultations with affected communities if the Siang Upper Multi-Purpose Project moves past the feasibility stage.

Focus On Preliminary Feasibility Report

The Chief Minister explained that the immediate priority is to complete the Preliminary Feasibility Report to understand if the project is technically possible in Seismic Zone V. He noted that if experts decide the project cannot be built, the process will stop. The report will take about three months to finish and will help determine the best location and technical details.

National Security And Strategic Importance

Khandu mentioned that the project is important for national security and defense preparedness due to water infrastructure developments by China. He stressed that the proposal should be studied scientifically rather than being accepted or rejected without proper assessment.

Consultation And Compensation Assurances

The Chief Minister promised that the government will engage directly with local communities, Gram Panchayats, and villages if the project goes ahead. He added that land acquisition, asset assessment, and relief measures will follow applicable rules, and relocated settlements will receive basic infrastructure like roads and schools.
