Arunachal CM Assures Consultations On Siang Hydro Project

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has stated that his government will hold extensive consultations with affected communities if the Siang Upper Multi-Purpose Project moves past the feasibility stage. The Chief Minister said the preliminary feasibility report is the current priority to check if the project can be built safely in the region. Addressing officials in Boleng, Khandu explained that the initial study will take three months to determine technical parameters and location suitability.

Focus On National Security And Study

Khandu noted that the proposed project is vital for national security and defence preparedness due to infrastructure developments by China. He emphasized that the initiative must be examined scientifically through impact assessments and detailed project reports before any further action is taken.

Assurances To Local Communities

The state government has assured that public hearings, land compensation, and relocation discussions will be conducted transparently with local villagers. Khandu added that the public will have the opportunity to reject the project through official processes if public consultations establish that it should not go ahead.
