Arunachal BJP Backs Voter Roll Revision Amid Opposition Protests

The Bharatiya Janata Party in Arunachal Pradesh has strongly supported the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls to ensure accurate voter lists. The ruling party defended the official process while criticising the opposition parties for raising questions and staging protests against it.
Details of the Electoral Roll Revision Process
During a party meeting in East Kameng district, state general secretary Tadar Niglar stated that the revision is conducted under the Representation of the People Act, 1950. He noted that approximately 13.30 crore names had been deleted during the current exercise across categories such as deceased, shifted, duplicate, and untraceable voters. Niglar explained that the structured procedure involves booth level agents, household visits by officials, and opportunities for public claims and objections before publishing the final electoral roll.
BJP Condemns Opposition Pushback
The BJP leader criticised protests led by opposition groups, describing their actions as politically motivated attempts to create chaos. He questioned the opposition by asking if it was wrong to remove bogus or duplicate entries and verify the eligibility of voters. Niglar urged party workers to explain the importance of transparent electoral rolls and a fair democratic process to the public.
