Forest authorities in Arunachal Pradesh have implemented an emergency ban on two-wheeler traffic along a critical 4-kilometer stretch of the Roing–Anini highway, specifically between the 19 km and 23 km markers. The directive follows a confirmed Royal Bengal tiger sighting near Tiwari Gaon on October 14, 2026. The ban serves as a precautionary measure to prevent human-wildlife conflict, building on lessons learned from a fatal tiger attack on a police officer in February 2026 as reported by PTI.
Samuel Changkija, IFS, PCCF (WL & BD) and Chief Wildlife Warden, confirmed that
checkpoints have been established on both the Roing and Anini sides of the corridor to regulate movement. Mito Rumi, ADCF/DFO of the Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary, formally issued the public advisory prohibiting two-wheelers, particularly during early morning, evening, and night hours. Roing MLA Mutchu Mithi verified the presence of the tiger near the 19-km point through official channels, noting that forest teams are actively monitoring the big cat's movements.
Under the new safety protocols,
commuters are advised to travel only in four-wheeled vehicles with windows closed. Travelers are strictly forbidden from stopping, loitering, picnicking, or sightseeing within the affected zone. The public is also cautioned against entering nearby forest areas for trekking or gathering minor forest produce. Travelers are urged to report any fresh tiger sightings to the Forest Department, district administration, or police, with Range Forest Officer Magone Linggi designated as a primary contact for such reports.
