An armed gang attacked and robbed a resident of over two lakh rupees in Assam on September 10, 2026. The violent highway robbery took place in the East Singimari area of Rupohihat in Nagaon district.
The victim, Fakrul Islam, was returning home from the Rupohihat market when armed miscreants intercepted him. The assailants ambushed Islam, physically assaulted him, and struck his leg during the altercation.
The robbers stole over two lakh rupees in cash and his mobile phone before escaping. Bystanders were unable to intervene before the attackers fled, and the injured victim was taken to a nearby health facility for first aid.
Personnel from the Rupohihat Police Station arrived at the scene to start an investigation. Authorities set up blockades at rural intersections and launched a widespread manhunt across local riverine char tracts to find the suspects.
Local village leaders expressed concern over targeted robberies on dimly lit rural roads and urged authorities to increase night patrols and checkpoints.
