Armed men launched a coordinated attack along the Imphal-Tamenglong road corridor in Manipur, destroying homes and grain stores. The violence started with heavy gunfire near Tapon Khunou and Tapon Kullen villages before attackers set fire to Pipuram village.
Families were forced to flee into the jungle as attackers burned dwellings and food supplies.
Village defense units fought back to stop further entry into the main Makui settlement after heavy gunfire was directed at the area.
This incident follows a previous ambush between Makui Ashang and Thanamba that caused four deaths and raised fears of displacement.
Village authorities have urgently requested the immediate deployment of central security forces along the transit route to protect local residents.
