Alakh Pandey Leads Flood Relief Efforts in Assam

Physics Wallah founder Alakh Pandey visited Guwahati on August 1 and 2, 2026, to provide direct support and relief to children and families affected by the recent monsoon floods in Assam.

Support for Flood Affected Children

During his visit, Pandey met with families living in temporary relief setups. He took children to a local restaurant for a meal and visited a shopping mall to provide them with new clothes, daily essentials, and educational materials like textbooks. These efforts were aimed at offering comfort and supporting the continued education of displaced students.

Relief Operations and Medical Aid

Beyond personal interactions, the Physics Wallah team distributed approximately 20,000 kg of food rations to those in need. The team also set up medical camps in areas including Shivsagar and Bolwara and assisted in moving families from flooded homes to safer locations. Pandey personally observed the waterlogging and health risks in the affected regions and issued a public appeal for further support.

Government Flood Control Initiatives

On August 2, 2026, Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika announced that the Union Home Ministry has approved Rs 692 crore for a flood control project. This project, guided by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, plans to turn wetlands into reservoirs to manage future flooding. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has stated that the state does not require foreign assistance to manage the current humanitarian crisis.

Challenges for Schools and Recovery

Pandey noted that the government's planned school reopening date of August 9 is unlikely to be met due to the state of inundated school buildings. He emphasized that the immediate priority remains saving lives and called for scientific drainage solutions to address the issue of long-term water stagnation.
