Following recent fire incidents in hotels in Tarapith and Kolkata, administration officials conducted surprise checks at various hotels in Jayrambati on Tuesday. A joint team consisting of fire department, police, BLO, and electricity department officials inspected multiple small and large hotels in the area to review safety measures.
During the inspection,
officials checked for adequate fire extinguishers and whether they were in working condition. They also examined proper exit routes and emergency exit arrangements for people to safely evacuate during an emergency. Electricity department officials checked the electrical wiring in the hotels.
After the inspection, officials stated that
this checking was done keeping in mind the safety of pilgrims and tourists. Hotels found with any shortcomings in their fire safety systems have been instructed to improve the arrangements according to rules as soon as possible. Hotel operators have been warned of legal action if they fail to follow the instructions.
