Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Demands Probe Into Tarapith Fire

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has officially demanded a thorough investigation into the recent fire incident at a private lodge in Tarapith, Birbhum. The incident, which occurred early Monday morning, resulted in the loss of eight lives and left several others injured, who are currently receiving medical treatment. Following the tragedy, authorities managed to rescue many individuals from the premises, and the site remains a focal point for safety concerns in the region according to Hindusthan Samachar.
Concerns Over Rapid Urbanization
During a press conference held on Monday, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury highlighted that the site of the fire was a large building where such an incident was foreseeable. He stated that the holy pilgrimage site of Tarapith has been transformed into a concrete jungle over the years. The lack of proper urban planning and the disappearance of open spaces have become major issues for the area. He pointed out that the haphazard construction of numerous hotels has significantly altered the landscape of this religious destination.
Safety Standards and Encroachment Issues
Chowdhury criticized the construction practices in the area, noting that developers prioritized financial gain over essential safety measures. He explained that many of these hotels are situated in locations where fire engines cannot easily reach in the event of an emergency. This lack of accessibility makes rescue operations extremely difficult and puts the lives of the public at high risk. Furthermore, he asserted that a comprehensive investigation into the encroachment of land in Tarapith is necessary to address the root cause of these safety hazards.
